I wanted to create a list of my favorite items that I personally use for my own Yorkies & Biewers. I have learned over the years through trial and error what are the best items to purchase. These are all must needed items to purchase before you bring home your new baby. With so many choices available out there, it can be difficult to decide exactly what to buy. I hope that my list will help simplify things for you.

FEEDING: “Royal Canin Puppy X-Small Kibble” – Please  continue  feeding  your baby its current diet of Royal Canin. 1/4 cup feeding, twice a day.

FEEDING BOWLS: Small Ceramic or stainless steel bowls (NO porous materials like plastic). Remember to keep the bowls small. they only eat 1/4 cup for each feeding.  For Ceramic, I recomment “PetRageous 44343 Toftees Paws Diner Bowls” or “LoeJan Elevated Cat Food Bowl”.  They are both raised off of the ground and come in a nice small size. For Stainless Steel, I recomment “MLife Stainless Steel Dog Bowl wih Rubber Base”.

TREATS:  “Bil-Jac Small Dog Training Treats” Soft Chicken  Liver are my Yorkies & Biewers favorite! Remember, these are used as a TREAT and/or REWARD when training. DO NOT over feed them treats or they will not want to eat their normal food.

“Nutri-Cal” is a must have staple in your home. This is great to use on an occasional basis to stimulate their appetite or if they were to show any signs of Hypoglycemia.

Honey or Karo Syrup can also be used for any signs of Hypoglycemia.

TEETHING: For Teething and to help keep their teeth clean, I only recommend “Nature Gnaws Bully Sticks” and ” Himalayan Dog Chew Original Yak Cheese Dog Chew”. NEVER give them Greenies, they have been known to be a choke hazard with small dogs.

TEETH CARE: Yorkies and all small breeds are prone to “Periodontal Disease”. It is imperative to clean their teeth on a regular basis. I recommend using “Vet’s Best Enzymatic Dog Toothpaste” with a finger “Jasper Dog Toothbrush” or just use plain gauze wrapped around your finger. By doing this, it will help reduce the trips to visit your Veterinarian for Professional Teeth Cleaning.

TOYS: Choose a variety of toys with different textures & shapes, like crinkle toys, squeeky toys, balls, & ropes. Here are some of my favorite recommendations: “Petstages Mini Orka Chew Pair Bone & Dumbbell Dog Toy”; “Coricorsu Dog Toy Squeaky Dog Balls”; “Mini Plush Loofa Dogs”, “Playology Dri Tech Rope Dog Chew” for small dogs; and “AZSSMUK Cute No Stuffing Dog Toy” for small dogs, they love the crinkle sound that these make.

I highly recommend purchasing the “Original Snuggle Puppy Heartbeat Stuffed Toy”.  this is a very comforting toy that helps with the transition into their new home.

PUPPY HARNESS & LEASH:  I recommend “Puppytie No Pull XS Dog Harness with Leash” Please do not use a collar on their neck. Their necks are very delicate and a collar could damage to their tiny trachea.

GROOMING SUPPLIES:  For Shampoo/conditioner I use “Chris Christensen Ice on Ice Bag Deal 64”, it includes detangling shampoo, conditioner & finishing spray. It works great for tangles and offers a high shine to their coat. For my Biewers I use “Chris Christensen White on White Shampoo”.  These are my favorites Brushs & Slickers: “Tangle Teezer Detangling Dog Grooming Brush”; “Chris Christensen Mark X Slicker Brush”; and “Chris Christensen Dog Brush 20mm”. For combs  I recommend the  “Andis Dog Comb” and ” Coastal Li’l Pals Double-Sided Dog Comb” this is the perfect little comb for their eye area. For Nail trimming, I use “Shiny Pet Store Pet Clippers” and “Styptic Powder” for when I occassionally trim too short.  And Lastly, for trimming ears and paws, I recommend “Wahl Professional Arco Mini”. This is great for trimming the hair off  the leather of their ears as well as trimming the bottom hair on the pads of their feet.

EAR CARE: Yorkies and Biewers can be prone to an occasional ear infection, so I highly recommend keeping “Zymox” on hand. This could save you from an unnecessary trip to the veterinarian.

DOG BED:  I recommend getting “Bedsure Calming Bed” for small dogs. They’re donut shaped, extremely soft, and washable. They also come in a variety of colors.

BLANKETS: My favorite Dog Blankets are “Luciphia Premium Fleece Dog Puppy Sherpa”. They are so soft and wash up so nicely.

CRATES/PLAYPEN: I recommend the “IRIS Puppy Pen”. I have personally tried so many different ones and these are by far the best! You can buy addtional panels “IRIS Add-On Panels” to increase the size for extra play room. It is easy to assemble or disassemble for storage. You can even purchase a top “KUMOUARTS Dog Playpen Mesh Top Cover” if your baby is a climber, you own a cat, or just for extra peace of mind. THINMUHAND even makes a matching cover and bottom  for these, “THINMUHAND 2 Pack Dog Playpen Cover and Bottom”.

PEE PADS: You have 2 choices: Disposable Pee Pads or Washable Pee Pads. I personally use washable ones “IMPROVIA  Reusable Puppy Pad”, however if you choose to use disposable ones, I would highly recommend buying a tray “IRIS USA Pee Pad Holder” that is designed to hold the disposable pee  pad in place. Puppies love to play with these paper pee pads and chew them up. The disposable ones that I would recommend have activated carbon in them to keep any smells away, “Glad for Pets Black Charcoal Puppy Pads”.

DOG STAIRS: Dog Stairs are very important for your baby to learn to use. Jumping off of a couch or chair is very bad for their little legs and joints, plus they could really get hurt doing so.  I highly recommend purchasing “Topmart High Density Extended Foam Dog Ramp & Steps”. i have tried all kinds and this is my favorite.

CARRIER:  You will want to purchase a Carrier for transporting in a car, going to the veterinarian, or traveling with an airline. I like the “Henkelion Dog Carrier” It’s soft sided, has lots of ventilation, screen sides so your baby can look out, and it’s Airline approved.

CLEANERS: Please DO NOT use any harsh chemical cleaners around your baby. I personally use “Puracy 99.9% Natural All Purpose Cleaner Concentrate” in Green Tea & Lime. It smells good and is NOT harmful to your baby.

FLEAS, TICKS, & MOSQUITOS: I DO NOT recommend using flea collars on your baby. This is a poison that not only kills fleas and ticks, but is also harmful to your baby. I DO recommend using “Wondercide Flea, Tick, & Mosquito Spray”. It’s all natural, comes in different scents, and will prevent and kill fleas, ticks, & mosquitos.
